Thiruvengaivaasal temple - Pudukkottai.

In Devaloga all devas assembled.Soon Devendra entered the hall .He noticed that all the persons assembled there except Heavenly cow "Kamadenu".She later entered there.Devendra got angry & cursed her to be born in the earth without listening to her explanation.Kamadenu then met Vashista Maha rishi on the way & he advised her to meet Kapila Maharishi in the southern side of the earth.Kamadenu ,descending to the earth , met Kapila maha rishi.He advised her to bring  Holy  Ganges water from Kasi & perform abishega to the Siva linga under the shade of a mahila tree.As advised, Kamadenu  brought holy Ganges water daily in her both ears & applied it over  Sivalinga.God Shiva was very much happy to see the devotion of Kamadenu. One day a tiger(வேங்கை ) suddenly appeared before Kamadenu while she was bringing Ganges water & threatened her that he is gong to swallow her.Now Kamadenu pleaded with the tiger that she has to perform Shivapooja & she promised  the tiger that she would  return to  the tiger after finishing the pooja.As promised,Kamadenu   returned after performing Shivapooja to the tiger's place.The tiger  suddenly transformed as God Parameswara & blessed Kamadenu with Moksha.As  God  Siva came in the disguise of tiger this place is called "திருவேங்கைவாசல் " & located in Pudukkottai  city.For clearig curses & to get  child , people  worship  here.This  temple is carved out of a rock.குடவரைக் கோயில்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று. கோ  - பசு ,  கர்ணம்  - காது .        பசு  பூஜை செய்ததால் இறைவன் பெயர் " கோகர்நேஸ்வரர் " ,மற்றும்  வேங்கை      உருவில் வந்ததால் திரு வேங்கைவனநாதர் என்றும் இறைவன்  அழைக்கப்படுகிறார் . Photos courtesy Dinamalar magazine with thanks.
